Do I need a guarantor?

Question:
Do I need a guarantor?
Answer:

When you accept your offer of accommodation and choose to pay by instalments, you will need to provide us with the details of someone who will agree to guarantee your accommodation payments. A guarantor is required for all resident students who chose to pay their rent via the instalment option.

Guarantor Details

If you need a guarantor, you will need to provide us with your guarantor's name and email contact details. You must gain your guarantor's consent to the provision of their personal details to us before doing so. When you have accepted your licence agreement, you will be asked to provide the details of your guarantor. We will then make contact by email with your guarantor and issue them with a User ID and password. Please let your guarantor know that they can expect communication from us by email.  Your offer cannot be completed until your guarantor has completed their part of the process.

What is a Guarantor?

A guarantor is usually a parent, guardian or family relation. Should you default in the payment of your rent or any other monies payable under the Licence Agreement, your guarantor will be expected; upon written demand, to pay all outstanding amounts due to the University.  As long as you pay your rent your guarantor will not be contacted.

I am unable to provide a Guarantor, I am unable to pay my rent in advance, what should I do?

Housing Hand are a guarantor provider that can be used for CCCU and private sector accommodation.

Please contact the accommodation office: accommodation@canterbury.ac.uk giving your name, student number and contact phone number. A member of the team will be able to provide you with advice.
