Dogs are stupid – what science knows about dog intelligence

Dogs are employed as helpers & companions by humans and every dog owner can tell at least one anecdote about the cleverness of their pooch. In recent years psychology has focused on the scientific study of the cognitive abilities of dogs and also on dog-human interaction & communication. This fascinating talk will give an opportunity to hear about some of the surprising findings in this interesting field

Biography

Dr Britta Osthaus is a senior lecturer in psychology at Canterbury Christ Church University. She came to Britain in 1997 and started to study the cognition of dogs as part of her PhD at the University of Exeter. A dozen years or so later she is more than ever convinced that dogs are dogs, and that they see the world very differently from us. Her work has been published in international journals and presented at conferences in Europe and the USA. Recently she has also studied mule, donkey and cat cognition. She is the proud owner of several gerbils.
