KS3 Modern Foreign Languages: Why Learn a Language?
Through a workshop experience, a Year 9 class of girls at Hodge Hill Girls School in Birmingham are motivated to consider taking a modern foreign language for either GCSE or as a vocational course. The programme features Languages for Life project officer Annie Bannerman and her team of undergraduates from Aston University's School of Languages and Social Sciences leading a workshop with a Year 9 group of girls.

KS3 Modern Foreign Languages: ICT and MFL
In this programme, we travel to Birmingham to explore how ICT can be used to motivate pupils and enhance the teaching of modern foreign languages. Marie Daniels, head of MFL at Hodge Hill Girls' School, explains that she has changed her teaching methods since introducing ICT into her lessons.

KS3/4 Modern Foreign Languages: Peer Assessment
This programme looks at effective ways of developing and using peer assessment in the classroom, as demonstrated by the modern foreign languages (MFL) department at Prince Henry's Grammar School. Prince Henry's have chosen peer assessment as a focus through which they are enhancing language learning at Key Stage 3 and 4.

KS3/4 Modern Foreign Languages - Attracting Lower Ability Pupils
This programme visits Frederick Gough School in Scunthorpe to examine the issue of making language courses more appealing to lower ability pupils. When Andy Markham and his MFL department colleagues realised that less able students were switching off when studying for GCSE French or Spanish, they decided to try introducing more vocational language courses as an alternative.

Modern Foreign Languages: Assessment for Learning
This programme follows one modern foreign language (MFL) teacher demonstrating a range of these techniques in action, including giving assessment criteria to her class and using pupils to assess each others` reading and writing skills. MFL teacher Maria Vaughton from specialist language college Royds School in Leeds is joined post-lesson by AfL in MFL expert Nicola Hobbs from Prince Henry's Grammar School.

Video Case Studies
A selection of video case studies from Teachernet, about using ICT across the curriculum. There are 10 video case studies about creative writing, environmental description and reviewing grammar in French, accuracy and problem solving in German, presentations, preferences and opinions in Spanish and general information about school subjects, EAL and drop down menus.
