Secondary ICT: Personalised Learning with ICT 1
What part can ICT networks play in delivering the government's personalised learning agenda? This programme looks at two schools that are using management information systems (MIS) and learning platforms to directly benefit teaching and learning. The first school, Seven Kings High School in Ilford, Essex has customised an off-the-shelf MIS for their particular vision of Assessment for Learning.

Can handheld devices or personal digital assistants (PDAs) help to remove significant barriers to learning, and enable flexibility of access, cross-curricular use, and extended learning opportunities beyond the classroom? In this programme, we visit two schools that have been involved in the first phase of the Dudley LEA pilot, to find out how pupils and teachers have been adapting to the new technology.

What are the issues involved in being at the cutting edge of ICT development in secondary schools? In this programme, a group of teachers and advisers from programmes 1 and 2 join Bernie Zakary from Becta to discuss their experiences of using ICT to deliver personalised learning. The panel debate the pros and cons of risk-taking; the potential conflicts between personalised learning and formal assessment; and the impact that ICT initiatives could have on teacher workloads.

This website now includes examples of pupils' work with ICT across a range of subjects, with teacher commentary on how the use of ICT enhanced learning in the subject. The work exemplifies the requirements to use ICT in subject teaching.

Literacy in the secondary sector
The National Literacy Trust, founded in 1993, is an independent charity dedicated to building a literate nation. The focus of this section of the website should be of use to anyone working in the secondary sector and particularly useful for secondary school literacy/KS3 coordinators. Like all key areas on this site, it includes a news update followed by Government approaches, research, statistics, initiatives - including reading initiatives - and resources.

Numeracy across the curriculum
In spring 2002 all schools are expected to devote a whole-school training day to numeracy across the curriculum.
