Inclusion, Equalities & Social Justice

This research theme aims to provide a supportive, yet critical forum for those interested in exploring and interrogating concepts around inclusion, social justice and inequality. As well as having a strong research focus and providing a support network for publications and research, we believe the identity of the group needs to be driven by member interests. Issues related to inclusion, equality and social justice affect us in our everyday lives as teachers, academics, researchers and individuals. This theme aims to provide a stimulating, scholarly, and critical space for academics interested in interrogating their own personal and professional understandings of inclusion, equality, social justice and the lives of those in disconnected populations.

Informed by an interdisciplinary group of academics, spanning across primary, secondary and further and higher education, and including academics from sociology and social work disciplines, this group provides a critical and intellectual forum for debate by unpacking the complexities of the social distinctions in society. Theme areas of interest include: equality, poverty and the achievement gap, special and additional educational needs, inclusion and exclusion, ethnicity, socio-economic group, gender and sexuality.

The theme leader is Dr Ruth Rogers.
