Much of the work in the Faculty of Education, at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, touches upon the lives of children, families or communities. For some colleagues, the experiences of children and families and the communities in which they live, or professional communities that support them, are central to their work. This theme draws together a broad range of professional, disciplinary and methodological perspectives to reflect on and debate relevant policy, practice, and research and the potential links between these areas. A particular focus for the group is the involvement of children, families and professionals in research and democratic decision-making or participation. Our interests extend beyond the British context to include international and comparative perspectives.
We aim to provide an academic environment that is both encouraging and challenging, and which enables colleagues to find common areas of interest and to build and share expertise across research activities.
There is a close link with the work of the Research Centre for Children, Families and Communities.
The theme coordinator is Dr Sacha Powell.
