Research
Research in the Faculty of Education is strong and recognised nationally and internationally. Research activity takes place across all the departments within the Faculty, encompassing research and scholarship from early childhood through to lifelong and adult learning.
All academic members of staff engage in research and are encouraged to participate in seminars and conferences, and to publish in a range of academic and professional journals. The extent and quality of educational research was recognised in the Research Assessment Exercise |(2008), in which 35% of our research was judged to be world leading or internationally excellent.
There is a vibrant and active research community with a range of seminars, writing and reading workshops, faculty research days and conferences with regional, national and international dimensions. Research is organised through a number of cross-faculty research themes:
Each theme has one or more co-ordinators who work with the Educational Research Directorate. In addition, every department has a research co-ordinator who works with other members of the department to support research development. Details of research in each department can be found under:
Theme and departmental research co-ordinators, and members of the Educational Research Directorate meet every term in the Education Research Committee to discuss ongoing research issues, research projects and publications. Ethical issues are monitored by the Education Research Ethics Committee.
Research students, full and part-time, are a vital part of our community and play an active role in enhancing our research and scholarship.
