The aim of this dynamic research centre is to undertake research that enhances the lives and life chances of children and young people while building strong families and communities.
The centre, which has close links to the Faculties of Education and Health and Social Care, draws together academics from a range of different disciplines in order to undertake high-quality research of national and international significance. We adopt a multi-disciplinary approach which is underpinned by ecosystemic, intergenerational and socio-cultural-historical theories - whereby children and young people are nested within dynamic systems of families, communities and services.
Building a research community
Since its establishment in 2009, the centre has been successful in capturing funding for a range of significant projects. It is building a vibrant research community through its regular research events and growing number of excellent research students.
Our research currently focuses on three inter-related themes: the politics of early childhood, parents and families, discourse and exclusion.
