Extended Learning Opportunities: a framework for self-evaluation in study support (ELO)

Training Programme

This course offers a tool, complete with a training package, for schools and practitioners involved in developing study support provision. The training programme offers a self evaluative approach and defines three developmental levels of good practice. It may also be used as the criteria for formal recognition of Quality in Study Support good practice in schools and libraries. Charitable organisations, educational providers, including, museums, Universities and sports clubs, who deliver study support may also wish to demonstrate the quality of their Study Support using this framework via the QiSS Recognition Process. The training will be of particular relevance to School Heads, Chief executives, Study Support Coordinators, Local Authority Strategic Managers, Extended Services Co-ordinators and Cluster Co-ordinators, Officers with a remit for aspects of the core offer for example, extending learning, Childcare, Adult Education, School based professionals and multi-agency based professionals.

TRAINING OPTIONS

Training is based around two sections of the ELO: First Steps and the 15 Quality Themes from the Framework and can be tailored to the needs of individual groups.

The course is available in two forms, depending on the client's requirements

Half-day refresher

This consists of an overview of the ELO and then an opportunity to engage with and discuss the new First Steps Tool and for Officers and/or Practitioners to update their knowledge of the new themes including next steps and support for the transition process.

One-day Training

This consists of an overview of the ELO and then an opportunity to engage with and discuss the First Steps Tool and through a Critical Friend approach develop a dialogue using the questions, descriptors and criteria in the framework. Support with using the framework for practitioners who are not familiar with it and next steps including an overview of the QiSS process will also be provided.
