Three Critical Friend modules are available at M level, each consisting of 20 credits of a Masters degree in Educational Studies (180 credits). The modules challenge students to look critically at the theory and supporting evidence for the role of Critical Friendship, both within the School Improvement agenda and how the concept is being increasingly used outside of education. As the course progresses, students are then invited to reflect on their own practice and engage in a small piece of action research whilst being a Critical Friend.
Students who are successful are then invited to select a pathway through the MA in Educational studies, linked to School Improvement, School Development or Leadership & Management. However, the M level credits can be combined with those obtained from other institutions or used to follow different pathways within the University.
Alternatively, completion of all 3 modules can lead to the award of a Post Graduate Certificate (PG Cert).
Each module is delivered via distance learning, students supported via 3 days of workshops and a series of on-line tutorials, discussion groups and electronic resources.
