Course Description
Entrepreneurship is a process and a set of behaviours that result in new things – solutions to problems. Entrepreneurs may put these solutions into action in many ways: they may establish charities or social enterprises, they may start profit oriented businesses, they may develop new products or services. They may work in the public or private sectors.
This course introduces students to some essential ideas about entrepreneurship, and provides an opportunity to try them out through a live project with a local enterprise. The ideas will help students to understand the world of enterprise and work, and to consider the potential of entrepreneurship in their lives. The application of the ideas to a real project will help students to acquire skills which will be useful for their careers.
This course will provide the opportunity for students work with a problem from a business /
employer in the Canterbury area. The businesses have been asked to think of a problem for which they need some help. A representative of the business will come to class, and present their problem to students. On the final day of course, representatives will come again to the university and students will be asked to communicate their ideas and solutions to the problems.
This course would be appropriate for young people who: may be wondering about entrepreneurship and what it means; who have an idea which they are interested in exploring; who want experience working on a real project with an organisation.
