National Award for SEN Co-ordination

National Award for SEN Co-ordination

Canterbury Christ Church University is pleased, as one of the government’s approved training providers, to be able to deliver the statutory National Award for SEN Coordination.

We offer a programme that is based on many years of expertise in SEN and Inclusion, working closely with schools and Local Authorities to transform thinking and practice and achieve the best possible outcomes for vulnerable pupils. We currently run this programme in Canterbury, Medway, Bromley, Croydon and Bexley but we can provide cohorts in other localities to suit demand.

Our programme is delivered through 11 face to face sessions. This provides the optimum amount of support, not only with expert tutors in the field of SEN and Inclusion, but also with other SENCOs. High quality teaching input is balanced with plenty of time and opportunity for critical and reflective practitioner discussions, to ensure that all SENCOs are enabled to return to their schools not only with ideas and further understanding of the issues, but also with practical points for action and development.

What is the National Award for SEN Coordination?

It is now statutory that all new SENCOs to post, working in maintained, mainstream schools (including Academies) must attend and complete the National Award for SEN Coordination. The National Award for SEN Coordination is a one year, part time postgraduate certificate course, which, on successful completion of the assessed work will give the SENCO 60 Masters level credits (the equivalent to a third of a full Masters).

“Having my SENCO attend the National Award for SEN Coordination with you has truly transformed our SENCO and SEN practices within our school.”
(Headteacher)

“As a direct result of my participation in the course with you, my headteacher has already recognised the importance of being a member of the senior leadership team, and I have already been promoted, which is having a direct impact upon my ability to implement all the wonderful ideas that we discuss during our sessions.”
