At the crossroads: new directions in teacher education

Introduction and call for papers

To celebrate 50 years of educating and informing teachers, the Faculty of Education at Canterbury Christ Church University is hosting an international teacher education conference. The conference will also mark the excellence of teacher education at Christ Church and reinforce our reputation for high quality research.

At a time of great change this conference focuses on major current issues. A special feature of this conference is the collaboration of practitioners and academics to forge a creative vision for the future of teacher education.

The conference will include internationally renowned keynote speakers, seminars, workshops and an opportunity for researchers to present papers on the following six research themes related to teacher education:

  • Professional identity and development;
  • Curriculum innovation and creativity;
  • Inclusion, equality and diversity;
  • Auto/biography and narrative studies;
  • Children, families and communities;
  • Faith, beliefs and values.

The conference will take place in the beautiful, historic City of Canterbury, Kent and will also offer delegates the opportunity to attend a conference dinner and enjoy a range of cultural and educational visits

Abstracts should be emailed to: gill.harrison@canterbury.ac.uk| by Monday 19 March 2012.

Submitting an abstract

The abstracts for each paper (including those submitted for a symposium) should be a maximum of 400 words and include the following:

  • Background to the topic
  • Research questions/focus of the enquiry
  • Research methods
  • Brief mapping of the literature
  • Theoretical/analytical framework
  • Research findings/contribution to knowledge in the field of teacher education.
  • Please add the theme to which your paper relates:
    - professional identity and development;
    - curriculum innovation and creativity;
    - inclusion, equality and diversity;
    - auto/biography and narrative studies;
    - children, families and communities; faith, beliefs and values.

Papers that do not satisfy the criteria will be rejected. Please note that the abstract should not exceed the word limit. Brief references can be added and will not count towards the word limit. Please do NOT add your name to the abstract for anonymised reviewing purposes.

Symposia

Submissions should include:

  • Title and convenor, plus their institution
  • 400 word overview of the symposium
  • 400 word abstract for each paper.

Applicants will be notified by Wednesday 4 April 2012.
