Dr Barbara Bassot
Profile
Barbara Bassot is a Senior Lecturer within CCPD and she teaches on a range of programmes. Her professional background is in career guidance and she practiced as a Careers Adviser for 12 years before entering HE. She is Programme Director for the MA in Career Guidance. She also teaches on the Foundation degree in Working with Young People and Young People's Services and is the Course tutor for the Advanced Certificate in Connexions Practice. She is also involved in various consultancy activities with a range of Connexions services.
Barbara teaches a range of subjects on these programmes, including Reflective Practice, Education Training and Work: Supporting Young People in Transition, and Equality and Social Justice.
Barbara's research interests are in social constructivist approaches to learning and development, in particular the application of Vygotsky's concept of the zone of proximal development to career guidance, which was the subject of her doctoral thesis. She is also interested in a range of theoretical orientations to reflective practice and professional learning, including e-learning. Barbara is also a member of the Institute of Career Guidance.
