Advanced Certificate in Connexions Practice
Introduction
The aim of the Advanced Certificate in Connexions Practice is to enable you to continue to develop your professional knowledge and understanding in relation to your practice with young people. This is achieved through the application of models of reflective practice and an examination of the management of change, both individual and organisational.
Illustrated Course Outline
The course consists of an induction day followed by five one day sessions. Time in between sessions is given for reading, continuous development of practice and working on the assessed elements of the course. All participants are provided with a Course Reader containing selected readings covering all the relevant topics.
Day One
Induction and orientation to the course and registration for participants, with an optional study skills element for those who have not studied recently.
Day Two
Reflective practice workshop. Participants will focus on their recent learning (e.g. from training courses), their strengths and gaps/areas for development. Review of models of reflective practice. Writing the learning plan.
Day Three
The case study. Good practice in working with other organisations, advocacy and managing change (individual and organisational). The impact on 'you' as the practitioner and on the young person; identifying areas for improvement.
Day Four
Presentations of progress on the case study. Writing a good case study.
Day Five
Preparation for the professional discussion and tutorials.
Day Six
Individual professional discussions at CCPD / Salomons recorded on DVD at the interview training suite.
How is the course assessed and accredited?
The course is validated at Level 6 (formerly Higher Education (HE) Level 3) and carries 40 credits. The course is assessed using the following variety of methods:
An evaluation of your learning so far (including evidence from at least 2 days of CPD activity), followed by areas for development relating to the PDP (a learning plan) - 2000 words.
Progress to date on a case study of work with a young person. 15 minute presentation - 2000 words equivalence.
The case study write up - 3000 words.
A recorded professional discussion where you reflect on what you have learned through the Advanced Certificate in Connexions Practice - 3000 words equivalence.
On completion of this course you should be able to:

2. Critically evaluate models of reflective practice and their applications to professional development, practice and improvement.
3. Critically evaluate the impact of change on clients, organisations, professional practitioners and yourself.
