Hilary Brown is Professor of Social Care and a consultant in adult protection at the Centre for Applied Social and Psychological Development at Canterbury Christ Church University College.
This paper has been commissioned and approved by South London Connexions Partnership Board and published in association with Canterbury Christ Church University College.
It aims to sensitise the Connexions service as a whole and personal advisers and youth workers in particular, to the extent and nature of abuse and its impact on the life changes of young people. It also sets out a code of conduct for personal advisers and youth workers, highlighting the need for clear personnel and professional boundaries in their work with young people and with the agencies that serve them. The responsibilities of supervisors in relation to concerns about abuse are also specified. The document seeks to clarify the role, responsibilities, authority and accountability of the various agencies.
