Conference - Vocation, vocation, vocation: placing meaning in the foreground of career decision making - 5th May 2011

The Centre for Career and Personal Development held its bi-ennial conference on  Thursday 5th May 2011.

Following John Hayes speech at the ICG Conference in November 2010, there is development here for the career guidance and development community in the UK to develop a new sense of shared purpose and professional possibility.  That development needs to take place within a context where attention is paid to the core values of impartiality and listening to the client and their 'story': a return to our professional career development roots.  A context where beliefs values, culture, biography and narrative are given space in the foreground of decision making.  The conference explored these themes and how they can inform meaningful practice.

Professor Tony Watts, Professor Linden West and Dr Gideon Arulmani delivered Key Note Presentations, a copy of which can be downloaded below.

Professor Linden West - Nurturing the Narrative Imagination in Career Guidance|

Dr Gideon Arulmani - Receive in order to give: Eastern cultural values and their relevance to contemporary career counselling contexts|

Professor Tony Watts - Career Guidance Policy Developments under the Coalition Goverment - a Critical Analysis|

An occasional paper will be published as a result of this conference in November 2011.
