International Students

Photo of an International StudentThe University highly values its international dimension with an international student community drawn from over eighty countries. Canterbury Christ Church University is the closest UK University to mainland Europe and has links with Universities and Higher Education institutions across Europe and the rest of the world. International students join a variety of award-bearing programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate level including PhDs.

Our International Office will support you during your application process and throughout your stay. We have a dedicated International Student Adviser to assist you. We organise orientation programmes and leisure activities including visits to London and other major attractions in the UK. As an international student you are guaranteed a place in University accommodation for the first year of your programme and will be given assistance for further years with recommended private accommodation.

If you are from a European Union country you can join any programme available to British students. If you are an overseas student you can only attend full-time programmes (with a few exceptions).

The International Office can advise on immigration status and assist with visa renewals.

Canterbury Christ Church University recognises a wide variety of non-UK qualifications which are accepted for entry to undergraduate programmes. Some programmes require specific subjects to have been studied and you should consult the relevant sections in the prospectus for programmes of interest to you.

If your academic qualifications or English language skills are not at the required entry level for our undergraduate programmes, we offer an International Foundation Programme with start dates in September and February.

Please see here for details of the International Foundation Programme.

All students must be competent in English Language to be successful in their studies. You will need to show evidence of proficiency by an IELTS, TOEFL test result or equivalent. It may be that your school leaving certificates grades in English are sufficient; the International Office admissions staff can advise.

For undergraduate entry an IELTS score of 6.0 is required or TOEFL paper-based test 550, TOEFL computer-based test 213 or TOEFL internet-based test 79–80. For students who do not achieve these scores we can offer pre-sessional academic English for programmes for an agreed period to reach the required entry level.

Our four week Pre-Sessional Study Preparation programme in September is offered free of tuition charge to all students progressing on to our undergraduate programmes.

In addition we offer all international students the opportunity to attend free Academic English Support Classes whilst they are studying for their degree programmes.
