International Opportunities for Students
Canterbury
Christ Church University has links with a wide range of universities in
other parts of the world and it is therefore possible for students to spend
time studying abroad as part of their degree or diploma programme. There are
also opportunities for work and travel abroad in vacation time or after
graduation that students can apply for while at the University.
America
Students taking American Studies as one of their subjects in the BA/BSc Combined Honours scheme are eligible to spend a semester at an American university as an exchange student as part of their three year degree programme. No extra tuition fee is payable for this but students must pay for flights, accommodation and living expenses. Single Honours American Studies students can spend either a semester or a year in the USA.
Further information can be found here, in the American Studies programme entry , and on the Department of American Studies website. Opportunities to spend time in the USA are also available in Education programmes.
Canada
Students who study Canada as a part of the American Studies programme have the opportunity of spending a semester or year at a Canadian university such as the University of Victoria on Vancouver Island.
Similarly students studying Single Honours Geography can take advantage of an exchange agreement with the University of Lethbridge, Alberta, as part of the Geography programme.
Europe
Opportunities to study for a term at a university in Europe under the Socrates-Erasmus programme are open to most students. There are bilateral agreements with twenty countries in Europe including France, Italy, Germany, Ireland, Spain, Portugal, Denmark and the Czech Republic. Universities with which we have Erasmus links are situated in Rennes, Turin, Saragoza, Malta and elsewhere.
The English Department also has a special relationship with l’Universite’ Catholique de Lille which enables Single Honours English students who meet the specified criteria to graduate with a degree in English and a Licence ès Lettres following two years of study in Canterbury and one in France.
Other programmes, such as American Studies, French and Film, Radio and Television Studies, also have good links with Lille.
