Introduction

The modules aim to support the work for promoting women and child health. The development of these modules has been mindful of the service requirements for the continual development of health professionals and the needs of the women and their family. The request from the clinical practice to facilitate learning has been considered and acted upon within these modules. These modules encompass the wide range of activities which can be described as health education and also considers medical conditions that can impact on the women and child’s health and well being. They all aim to foster learning about how practitioners can improve people’s health through communication as well as ‘hands-on’ care. These communication strategies include partnership-working at a strategic level in order to improve policy, assessing the needs of a community and planning interventions, providing sensitive and appropriate education for groups of people, and listening to individuals and helping them to reach informed decisions.
