Courses and Prospectus - PGCE Primary

PGCE Offer

All offers are subject to CRB and GTCE clearance, Health clearance, and receipt of two satisfactory references.

Please click on the below two links to access information about the CRB and Health clearance.

GTC Suitability

All students are required to complete the GTC "Suitability declaration" form. You will be sent this form with your CRB Disclosure application form to complete and return to Student Recruitment. If you do not receive this form please contact the PGCE Student Recruitment department.

From the 1 September 2008 all students on an initial teacher training course must be provisionally registered with the General Council for Teaching (GTC) within 28 days of registering (this being the 28 days after the course has started).

The Register is designed to assure employers (in particular) of the suitability of those claiming to be a qualified teacher, in terms of their qualifications and status.

Second Reference

All students are required to supply two references. The first is an academic reference, included with your GTTR application, and the second one you have nominated on your GTTR as a character reference. If you have not yet supplied this at the time of your interview, then please use the form supplied below. If your circumstance have changed in relation to this referee, then please feel free to use another.

Conditional Offers

In addition, some offers are also conditional on meeting requirements set by the curriculum tutor. Where these have been made the offer is conditional on these being met (see GTTR for details).

Evidence must be submitted for conditional offers to Student Recruitment by 31 July 2010. The exception to this is GCSE results, which are not released until August.

To be eligible to study on the PGCE you must meet the below national entry requirements; if you do not currently meet these then your offer will be conditional on you obtaining them. The actual degree award  that you must obtain is at the discretion of the University

If you do not meet the GCSE (or equivalent) entry requirements and you have not indicated  on your application form that you are in the process of obtaining it, then you will be required to take the University's equivalency test. Details about the equivalency test can be found on the Equivalency Test page of this site.

Qualifications Grade
Degree or equivalent Pass
GCSE English language (or equivalent) C or above
GCSE Maths (or equivalent) C or above
GCSE Science (or equivalent) C or above

If your Degree and GCSE result was pending on submission of your GTTR application, the below forms should be completed and returned once you have received confirmation of your results so that we can see where conditional offers have been met.

You DO NOT need to complete the above forms if you had already obtained these qualifications on submission of your application.

If you do not obtain your academic conditions before the PGCE programme commences, i.e. you fail to complete your degree, for example, then you should contact Student Recruitment to discuss this.

If you have been given non-academic conditions via your GTTR offer e.g. you have been asked to undertake a school placement, or improve your subject knowledge, you will be required to supply written evidence that you have met these conditions to the PGCE Student Recruitment department (who will then pass it onto the relevant tutor),  that these have been successfully met before you can commence the programme.

If you are not able to meet the conditions of your offer then you should inform the PGCE Student Recruitment department of this in writing, stating the reason/s.  In the event of such a change, the University reserves the right to withdraw your offer.

Offer Acceptance

If you want to accept our offer of a place on the PGCE you can only accept it by using the GTTR track service or by calling the GTTR Customer Service Unit on 0871468 0469 (please do not call the University to confirm that you are accepting your place). You will have a limited amount of time in which to accept our offer and if you do not accept it within this time the GTTR will automatically record a "Declined by Default" (DBD) response.

Withdrawing or Deferring

If at any time you decide to withdraw from our offer, or if you wish to defer your place (even after accepting your offer), then please complete and return the form below (see return address on the form).
