An offer of a place

With all applicants we take a number of factors into account when we decide whether or not to make an offer of a place.

  • Image of male studentWe take great note of the way that you have completed the application form and in particular the information you have included in the personal statement. (See Completing Your Application Form). When completing the personal statement you should always check the programme entry in the prospectus to see what specific requirements are needed.
  • We check to make sure that you are taking the right qualifications for the programme you have applied for. (See individual programme entries and Entry Requirements)
  • Finally, we read the comments your referee has made about you.

There are over thirty subjects available within the Joint/Combined Honours Scheme at the Canterbury Campus. The majority of subjects make a decision as to whether to offer a place based on the application form. The exception is Music. However, we reserve the right to interview applicants where we feel this would benefit both the University and the applicant.

Once the decision is taken, the University contacts UCAS and they let you know the outcome of your application. We will write to those candidates offered a place inviting them to visit us to meet academic staff, have a student led tour of the campus and there is also the opportunity to visit the local area.

If you’ve selected Music your application form is checked to make sure that you have met our entry requirements and then you are invited to visit. You will see in each programme entry what we look for when you are invited for interview.

At the interview you will also get the opportunity to meet academic staff and have a student led tour of the campus. The decision on the offer of a place is made via UCAS and you should normally expect to hear from them within two weeks of your visit.

For a number of Single Honours programmes you will find the selection criteria within the programme entry. This includes the degrees in Art, Diagnostic Radiography, Midwifery, Music, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Primary Education, Film, Radio and Television Studies, and Social Work.

The other Single Honours degrees within this prospectus, except for History, decide whether to make an offer of a place based on the application form. However, the University reserves the right to interview applicants for any subject where we feel this would benefit both the institution and the applicant.

Once the decision is taken, we contact UCAS and they let you know about the outcome of your application.

If you have selected History, your application form is checked to make sure that you have met our entry requirements and then you are invited for an interview and to visit the University. The decision whether to offer a place is made via UCAS and you should normally expect to hear from them within two weeks of your visit, unless we inform you otherwise.

The aim of the interview is twofold. Firstly, members of the academic staff will want to explore with you your motivations for choosing the subject and secondly, you have the opportunity to meet academic staff and question them about the programme and the University.

You will also have a student led tour of the campus and you can visit the local area.
