Creative Writing: Beginning a Novel

Date: Friday 29 June - Sunday 1 July 2012 | Tutor: Tricia Wastvedt
Venue: Salomons campus | Cost: £335

About this programme
You might have a sketchy idea for a plot, some characters, or a place you want to write about, but is it enough to turn into a novel, and where do you start? Perhaps you’ve written a chapter or two, but the idea has run aground, so how do you breathe life into it again and keep going to completion? This weekend will help you think about the techniques involved in writing a novel. We’ll look at things like structure, characterisation, theme, atmosphere and imagery.

The workshops will be relaxed and encouraging - you’re developing ideas rather than producing polished pieces of writing. The aim is that everyone will go home with plenty of material to work with, ready to push on with their project.
