Wim van Vuuren

Biography

Wim holds a PhD in Technology Management and an MSc in Industrial Engineering and Management Science, both from the Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands. Wim specialises in entrepreneurship and innovation, with a further interest in strategy and organisational design.

Prior to joining Canterbury Christ Church University, Wim led a Business Advisory Services team at KPMG in Malta for six and a half years. During these years he provided a wide range of consultancy services to both private sector and public sector clients, with an emphasis on strategy, business development and improvement, economic impact assessments and policy development. Wim also held the post of Assistant Professor in Organisation Science for three years at the Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands prior to his move to Malta.

Wim is Director of the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, and Programme Director for the Postgraduate Certificate in Shared Services.

Teaching and Academic Interests

In the area of Entrepreneurship and Innovation Wim is the module leader for Small Business Management and Consultancy and New Business Planning, and leads the Business School’s involvement in the IBM Universities Business Challenge. He also teaches the Change Management and Analysis and Developing a Shared Service Roadmap modules on the Postgraduate Certificate in Shared Services.

His research interests include:

  • the development of entrepreneurial skills and the role of experiential learning as part of the curriculum
  • start-ups (in particular high growth start-ups)
  • social enterprise (i.e. how the third sector is developing entrepreneurial activities to support their financial needs), and
  • business models used in start-ups and social enterprise.
