Biography
John has a PhD and BSc, both London University (Birkbeck College), and is a Chartered Psychologist.
Prior to joining Christ Church University, John followed a career lasting some 28 years in BT plc, from early days in Management Services to his final appointments in the Personnel function, as Personnel Director Special Businesses Division, and then Head of BT's Corporate People Strategy. John spent much of his time in BT in the International Division, and then later in the Corporate Headquarters.
John is a portfolio worker with a range of appointments, including Associate Lecturer with the Open University Business School, is a regular contributor to a range of Croner publications and client services, including The A – Z Guide for HRM Professionals, and runs his own Agora consultancy as an independent futurist and strategist.
At Canterbury Christ Church University he is a member of the University Research Ethics and Governance Committee and Chair of the Business and Management Faculty Research Ethics Committee.
He is an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society, and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Management and the Institute of Management Services.
Teaching and Academic Interests
John lectures on the DMS and MBA programmes, on topics including Principles of Management, HR Management, Strategic Management, Knowledge Management and Research Methods (for the Masters Programme). He also supervises research students on Masters and Doctoral (PhD) programmes.
His research interests include the Future of Work, Knowledge Management, and Disaster Planning.
