Biography
Andrew has a BA in Product Design, an MA in the History of Design, a PhD and a Professional Certificate in Marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing. Research for his PhD involved using ethnography and grounded theory to investigate the rewards associated with amateur design and innovation.
He owned and ran a London based design consultancy for ten years before moving into research and teaching. He has previously held teaching posts at a number of universities, including the University of London; Central St Martins College; University of Wolverhampton and the University for the Creative Arts.
Teaching and Academic Interests
His teaching specialism is strategic brand management, particularly in relation to the management of innovation, and the use of consumer insight in new product development. He is a visiting tutor in design management at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts, Switzerland, and external examiner in design management at Leeds Metropolitan University, and in design history and theory at Sheffield Hallam University.
His research interests are centred around cultures of consumption, particularly focussing on understanding everyday practice and the user experience in the development of marketing research. His current interests include the culture of pro-am innovation, grounded theory and material culture studies.
