Research is at the heart of this vibrant department. We believe firmly that our teaching should be driven by the research activity of the members of the department, so the research of staff and research students is central to what we do.

In the last RAE exercise the Department gained a 3a, which means that the majority of our research is of national excellence with some being seen as internationally excellent.

We have a range of staff whose expertise covers a range of interests across Religious Studies and Theology, including Religion and Culture, Religion and Gender, Myth, New Testament and Qumran, Medieval and Indo-Tibetan Mysticism, Buddhist narratives and Philosophy, Jewish Studies and Jewish-Christian relations. The University offers bursaries for research at M.Phil/PhD levels. For further details of this please go to the University research pages|.

As a research student you will be viewed as being an integral part of the life of the Department, contributing to is research and teaching profiles. You will be given high quality supervision as well as University wide research training. There are also a regular series of Staff and Graduate seminars that you will both attend and contribute to.

The Department hosts the Centre for Anglican Studies|, a research centre dedicated to the history, theology, and contexts of both the Church of England and the Anglican Communion
