American Revolution to Civil War, 1607-1865

Academic responsibility

This module examines the history of the USA from the origins of the American Revolution to the American Civil War (1861-65). It begins by looking at the colonial period of American history from the founding of the first permanent English colony at Jamestown, Virginia, in 1607. It then explores the colonial origins of the American Revolution and the Declaration of Independence, 1776. Finally, it looks at the early history of the USA, the growing rivalry between North and South, especially over slavery, and the election of Abraham Lincoln in 1860 that led to the Civil War.
