American Dream: US Politics and Society

Academic Responsibility: Tony McCulloch

This module explores the idea of the American Dream, i.e. the belief that the USA is a land of opportunity and freedom. It begins by looking at Martin Luther King's "I have a Dream" speech (1963) before examining the strengths and weaknesses of the American Dream. It then looks at US politics and society and also the different geographical regions of the USA in order to examine whether the American Dream is a myth or reality.
