Welcome to the Department of History and American Studies

History and American Studies at Canterbury Christ Church University is a thriving, dynamic and expanding department which combines innovative high-quality teaching with internationally acclaimed research in a friendly and supportive learning environment. You can study History| or American Studies| as a single subject (“single honours”) degree or combine them with each other or with a different subject altogether (“combined honours”): History and English Literature, for example, or American Studies and Politics, are popular combinations. The department also has great expertise in Archaeology| which means that you can opt to take a combined honours degree in History and Archaeology, or else combine Archaeology with other subjects such as English or Geography.  Archaeology options are also available as part of the History single honours degree programme. The American Studies single honours degree offers exciting opportunities for study in the USA or Canada at one of our partner institutions|, whether for a semester or a whole academic year. 

LATEST : our History programmes have just received a 100 percent student satisfaction rating in the 2013 National Student Survey (NSS), and overall, History at Christ Church is ranked 4th in the survey out of 89 History degree programmes in the United Kingdom
