About the Department
History and American Studies are separate but related programmes. American Studies consists largely of American politics, history and diplomacy but also includes options in American film, literature and art. American Studies students are able to spend time in North America ranging from a short trip to New York to a semester or year studying in the USA or Canada.
The History programme consists of courses from medieval, early modern and later modern history, including options in American history. It is also possible to combine History with Archaeology.
