Senior Lecturer (Language Studies)

John has taught and managed English language and English language teacher education programmes in different parts of Europe, South and Central America, South East Asia, and the Middle East. He is programme director of the undergraduate half-degree in English Language and Communication in the BA /BSc scheme, and also teaches on the MA TESOL programme. He also designs and teaches on courses in culture and communication for the faculty of health, and for the departments of media and business.
His main research interests are in intercultural communication, cultural aspects of language learning and teaching and materials, mentoring, discourse studies, and course design. His PhD research was on 'The Social Construction of Learner Identity in the U.K. - Published ELT Coursebook'. He is co-author (with Professor Adrian Holliday and Dr Martin Hyde) of the book Intercultural Communication: An Advanced Resource Book for Students published by Routledge in 2004.
