The Department has a strong research tradition in both English Literature and Applied Linguistics, with each field being recognized as a beacon of excellence in Canterbury Christ Church University research. An active PhD programme operates in each field.
The Department is also home to the International Centre for Victorian Women Writers (ICVWW), a research centre which aims to spearhead new and innovative research in the area of Victorian Women’s Writing, providing an international focus for scholars.
Additionally, the Department hosts overseas professional staff on short visits to Canterbury for Academic or Professional attachments.
