The following short course, offered by the Department of English and Language Studies and Kent's Minority Communities Achievement Service, is for teachers in Kent who work with children and young people for whom English is an additional Language (EAL).
Award
The course will enable participants to gain 20 credits at HE level three, (undergraduate level) leading to a Certificate in Developing Inclusive Practice for Pupils with English as an Additional Language.
Entry Requirements
The course is aimed at qualified teachers who work with EAL learners. The normal entry requirements will be a degree or teaching certificate and QTS.
Programme and Assessment
Sessions will comprise input on a range of issues relating to EAL and bilingual learners with opportunities for discussion of activities and practice. Registration with the University for this course will entitle all participants to have access to the University Library and ICT facilities. Participants will build a portfolio of activities (4000 words) on the development of inclusive practice in the EAL setting within their school. Tutorial time will be included to assist students with their portfolio.
