Literature of Fin de Siécle

Module Code:         MELEN4LFS

Module Convenor: Dr Carolyn Oulton|

This option module is open to all MA students.

This module examines writing of the last twenty years of the nineteenth century. It contextualizes the literature of the late 19th Century in its historical and cultural contexts. The changing role of women, juxtaposed with questions about the nature and status of artistry, work and religion is complemented by consideration of sexuality, transgression and punishment and provides a framework within which issues are discussed. Independent research and sharpened critical thought are developed through devising, researching and writing an individual research essay.
