Literature and Language Pathway
Pathway Structure
This structure applies to the Literature and Language Pathway within the Single Honours BA programme in English.
Please note that, because of staffing and timetabling constraints, it may not always be possible to run every course which is listed.

100 of the 120 credits taken at Level 1 must be Discipline Modules, and on this pathway there are five which are mandatory. Of these five, the first three (to a total of 60 credits) are designated as 'Literature' modules, and the other two are designated as 'Language modules' (to a total of 40 credits). The remaining 20 credits can come either from one of the four listed Optional Discipline Modules or from the Level 1 starred modules of any other programme within the General Modular Scheme.

Discipline modules to the value either of 100 or of 120 credits must be taken, including the four which, in order to ensure that all students take the minimum 40 credits' worth both of Literature and Language modules, are designated below as mandatory. Students must then take either one or two modules from the following list of optional discipline modules (20 credits each). If only one is taken, the remaining 20 credits may come from the Level 2 starred modules of any other programme within the General Modular Scheme.

Discipline modules to the value either of 100 or of 120 credits must be taken, at least 40 of which should be in Literature modules and at least 40 in Language modules. These include, as mandatory modules for all students, Language and Society (20 credits) and the Final Year Individual Study (40 credits), which may be in a Literature or a Language topic, or some combination of the two. Of the remaining 60 credits, a minimum of 40 must come from the following list of optional discipline modules. If only 40 credits (2 modules) are selected from this list, the remaining 20 may come from the Level 3 starred modules of any other programme within the General Modular Scheme. In their choice of options, all students must ensure they meet the minimum requirement of 40 credits in Literature and another 40 in Language.
