All undergraduate modules in the English department run for the whole academic year. Most courses are taught in seminar groups of about twenty students, with individual or group tutorials also being held periodically throughout the year. MA in English modules run for one term only.
The department has been praised for the innovative and wide-ranging courses it offers, but it cannot guarantee that every course or module within its programmes will run in every year. The number of modules available in a particular academic year may be constrained by student numbers and staffing and/or timetabling considerations.
Entry to courses in Creative Writing is on the basis of selection. Entry to the undergraduate course in Children's Literature may also be on the basis of selection
