Ceramics Single Honours, part-time, Year 2

Photo of Phillippa Howel at work "At this level I have negotiated with my tutor the practical work I am undertaking this term. It will be large scale work, possibly site specific, encompassing ideas about time, progress, evolution, the human condition and circles of life.

I am researching my subject matter by studying the significance of historic and contemporary artefacts, eg sundials, timepieces and milestones and also larger scale monuments, eg the pyramids and Stonehenge. I am also gaining theoretical and visual information from studying the evolution of the earth and human technological advancement.

I am using drawings and maquette to explore my ideas before embarking on the full-size work."

The Department

"I have found the ceramics course very stimulating. I enjoy the many visiting ceramists, with whom I have been able to discuss my work. However, I think the greatest strength of the department is the almost unlimited contact time we have with lecturers, who provide support and encouragement when needed."

After College

"When my course ends, I am hoping to continue working in ceramics. Eventually I would like to return to Christ Church to study for an MA."
