Music Technology
Making tracks
The Music Department is well equipped for Music Technology with sound design studios, recording studios and computer music suites. Students can record in the excellent acoustic of St. Gregory's Centre at the Canterbury Campus and in the multi-track studios at the Broadstairs Campus. For those interested in being creative with sound the Department benefits from being an institutional member of the IRCAM Forum, so we have an interesting and exciting range of specialist software for you to work with.
Liberating sound
Electronic Music is a fully established and constantly developing area of interest in the Department. Students are taught by expert staff with special interest in areas such as sound synthesis, sound spatialisation and online musical environments, and there are many opportunities to have your music heard through performances of electronic music on campus or via our record label, C3U Records. Students are increasingly interested in live electronic improvisation and take part in the electronic music group CONTACT.
In the mix
Commercial studio production is a key part of the experience at the Broadstairs Campus. Visiting lecturers from industry will help you produce the best possible mix in the studio, using industry standard software such as Logic, Cubase and Pro Tools. Students are regularly involved in live sound engineering with gigs in Horizons cafe/bar at the Broadstairs Campus and at Quarterhouse at the University Centre Folkestone.
