Research culture

Research and Knowledge Exchange

The research culture in the department is long established and research is high on the agenda. All members of staff are research active or are active media or art practitioners. Subjects for the former range from social media and journalism, the political economy of news, international media, American cinema, film and TV theory and to youth cultures and science fiction. Practice-Based Research include film making, script writing, journalism, experimental sound and radio production, and producing a wide range of two-dimensional, three-dimensional and multimedia art and design. All members of staff feed the benefits of their research and professional practice into their teaching, to the advantage of students.

Research seminar and conferences

The Department holds regular research seminars, open to all, which provide an opportunity for our lecturers and guest speakers to present and discuss their work. We also hold internationally renowed conferences and symposia regularly. For details on current events, please visit our events page|.
