Euphemia was educated at Edinburgh College of Art, where she studied BA and MA, and went on to gain B.ED at Moray House College of Education in 1973. She then became a freelance illustrator in London Magazines until the late seventies. Working mainly in drawing and painting she was appointed Subject Leader in Printmaking at Maidstone College KIAD from 1988 -1991. She has worked in Christ Church now for eight years as a printmaking lecturer.
Narrative
Euphemia exhibits regularly, one-woman shows and group exhibitions, within the British Isles and internationally. She was a major prize winner of the Cleveland Drawing Biennale, and has exhibited at the Pompidou Centre in Paris, the ICA, and Dusseldorf Museum of Modern Art with European Illustration. She also regularly exhibits in the National Print Show at the Mall Galleries and in 2003 at the Royal Academy Summer Show.
Euphemia has worked with the Edinburgh Print Workshop and closely with artists such as Sharon Kivland, Ron Haselden, and assisted Ken Kiff in producing a stone lithograph. With Canterbury Festival she has collaborated and curated major exhibitions from 1989 - 96, shows such as The Cupboard, Her Story, and The Altar, to which she invited 35 internationally known artists to exhibit in the Cleary Gallery for Canterbury Festival.
She has just completed four months research developing this work which will be shown in the Sidney Cooper Gallery in January 2005, including paintings, etchings, documentation, photographs, diary, sketchbook and findings, in 'Made in Egypt'

"My work is influenced by the rhythms of colour and music within the landscape of Egypt around Luxor temples. The images have become concentrated into a series of two dimensional sculptural conglomerations in etching and oils using red and blue and are somewhat narrative in the outcome, cityscapes involving urban signs symbols and people." - Euphemia MacTavish
