Senior Lecturer/Course Co-Ordinator Fine Art
Whilst at Brighton, Bob Stone studied under Dennis Creffield. At the time there were a number of influential painters, such as Chris Le Bonn, who created vigorous debate and a lively culture amongst students. Bob Stone's work still owes a debt to Dennis Creffield, especially with regard to the physical nature of paint and the notion of drawing as a process that subconsciously responds to intuition – drawing, as an activity in itself, is important to him as it also exists fundamentally within his painting.
Narrative
Bob's current paintings are figurative compositions that attempt to convey some mood of empathy. They are not predetermined, they are a continuum of interelated subject concerns that over the years interact and change. Landscape is another great source of inspiration. Bob has travelled widely in Europe, painting in Italy, Greece, Cyprus, Spain and France (where he lives and paints for part of the year, not far from Carcasonne).
For over twenty years Bob has taught part-time and currently also lectures in Fine Art at the University of Hull. He has been engaged in many exhibitions and also curated a number, including 'The Territory Group', mention of which has been made in 'The Times' and 'Modern Painters'.
