About Tudors and Stuarts History Weekend

Building on last year’s success, the Tudors and Stuarts Weekend in Canterbury brought together well-known professional historians and leading academics under the themes of ‘Kings and Queens’, ‘War and Politics’, ‘The Church’ and ‘Social History’ who gave a stunning array of lectures, guided participants around hidden buildings and gave fascinating ‘meet the object’ workshops.

As before Canterbury played host to an international audience, participants coming from Ireland, Wales, Scotland, France and even Chicago. The English were well represented, too, and some had travelled from Cornwall in the south west to Alnwick in the north east, with others from Coventry, Sheffield and Ipswich.

Again we were thrilled by the public response to the Tudors and Stuarts Weekend, selling about 1200 tickets. The event showed how much people value ‘good’ history and the opportunity to meet celebrated historians and experts who are happy to sign books, talk to people and have their photograph taken with those attending the Weekend.
