Tutor: David Wright | Canterbury campus | £39
A day school to enjoy one of the world’s most popular hobbies
where millions of pounds still change hands at great auctions. The
postal system got under way properly in England in the 16th century.
Clamour for reform saw the Universal Penny Post of 1840 and the
1d black and 2d blue – the world’s first postage stamps. Today there is not a country in the world without a long history of stamp design and production. These miniature works of art display personalities, products, local art and other topical subjects. There are famous errors, tremendous rarities, world-class collections and celebrated collectors, all in all making for one of the great visual hobbies. The tutor was a professional philatelist for many years, and the class will benefit from his long experience in world-wide philately.
