Thursday 5 October 2017 | 10am-12pm |6 sessions Tutor: Lee Hazeldine | Canterbury campus | £64 Modernity has affected our embodied experience and consequently changed our notions of gender, race, sexuality and self. Art has consistently reflected these disruptions in corporeal identity and often been a harbinger and advocate of changes in the perception of the body. This course analyses the relationship between art, the body and modernity via an examination of work across a range of movements and mediums. Seismic shifts in society and developments in technology are explored in relation to the subsequent fragmentation and enhancement of the body, as well as the disruption of notions of the embodied self in relation to an organic and inorganic other.
