The School of Humanities will be hosting its eleventh annual Thomas Becket lecture on Thursday 19th January 2017 at 6pm. This is a free public lecture which is open to everyone. The lecture will take place in the Powell Lecture Theatre (Pg09) at 6pm.
This year’s speaker is Dr Paul Webster of Cardiff University, who will be speaking on the subject of: ‘“St Thomas Guard my realm”: Becket’s Shrine, the King and the Politics of Sanctity’. Dr Webster is joint editor of an important collection of new essays on Thomas Becket on The Cult of St Thomas Becket in the Plantagenet World, c. 1170-c. 1220 (Woodbridge: Boydell, 2016). He is also the author of King John and Religion (Woodbridge: Boydell, 2015).
