Latest news on major builds in Canterbury and £200,000 investment in library resources

Two of our major building projects in Canterbury are well underway, with one due for opening in May.

Christ Church Sports Centre

The exciting design and build project to provide a contemporary sports centre for University students and staff is on track for completion in April. The sports centre will provide two full-sized netball/basketball courts within which there will be provision for other sports, a fitness suite, office spaces, a first aid room and an aerobics room.

For more information on the new sports centre, visit: www.canterbury.ac.uk/projects/sports-centre

Augustine House and student services developments

Augustine House is more than half way through the main build and taking on its final physical shape.

Whilst the building is a very tangible development, there are also major developments in other areas. Student Services will be based within the building offering a one-stop shop for all student needs. The Integrated Support Services helpdesk will become the first port of call for student enquiries.

The new library will operate on a largely self service basis, using automated self issue and return equipment. A significant £200,000 investment in student library books and resources has also been put in place, further adding to our commitment to the student learning experience.

Use of mobile devices throughout the entire building will be possible as the whole building will be WiFi enabled. There will also be 200 thin client laptops available for use within the building via the i-Borrow project.

For full information on Augustine House, visit http://www.canterbury.ac.uk/projects/augustine-house/

Can you help

Can you give your expertise to advise on aspects of running a radio station?

CSR is the first community radio station run by students. A collaboration between Canterbury Christ Church and the University of Kent, it provides a unique and exciting opportunity to students who want to get started in media, whether it is building technical parts, providing voice-overs for jingles or marketing a community event.

CSR is currently looking for volunteers to join the radio committee, or just to get involved on an informal basis, with expertise in the fields of marketing, technical (IT and electronic), business, community or backgrounds in Canterbury City Council. It is not necessary to have any experience in radio, just the dedication to help CSR grow.

For more information, visit www.csrfm.com/ or contact Jamie Stephens, e-mail: j.stephens@csrfm.com, tel: 01227 824703.
