Promoting Equality of Opportunity and Diversity

The University welcomes staff and students of all faiths and beliefs.  If you would like more information on faith provisions (not just Christian) within the University and in the local community, please visit the University Chaplaincy web pages.

The University has a Religion and Belief Position Paper  pdf / word. Since October 2010 there has also been a thriving Inter Faith Council with representatives from different major Faith groups acting as Faith Advisors.

Diversity Calendar

The Equality and Diversity Unit's Online Diversity Calendar includes the main holy dates for all of the major religions. For further information about any of these, you can click on the date in question.

Christian Distinctiveness at Canterbury Christ Church

The Higher Education Funding Council of England (HEFCE) funded the Leadership Foundation to produce a report on the identities of the Cathedrals Group Universities (a mission group to which the University belongs.) The report was finalised in March 2011 and discussed the features that make Cathedrals Group Institutions distinctive.

The Report: "Distinctiveness and identity in a challenging HE environment: a unique opportunity for Cathedrals Group institutions"

Useful Resources

The Higher Education Academy have produced a series of Faith Guides, that can be downloaded for free.

These guides (published from 2006) aim to give information to staff in the Higher Education sector on how best to support students with a variety of religious beliefs.

Currently covering Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism and Sikhism, the series has been written by respected academics with many years' research and teaching experience in their fields of expertise, and in consultation with religious communities.
