Canterbury Christ Church University has become increasingly diverse over recent years, as students from all over the world have been attracted to come to the university to study. By 2008, the student population consisted of 13% from Ethnic Minorities and this trend continues.

In 2007, a study of the quality of student experience for
Ethnic Minority students was carried out, by means of focus
groups and questionnaires. It was on the back of a
recommendation from this study that the Ethnic Minority
Mentoring Project was set up, funded by the Widening
Participation budget and led by Moira Mitchell (Equality and
Diversity) and Mary Andall-Stanberry (Early Childhood Studies).
