Ability/Auditions We are a mixed ability choir and aim to be as inclusive as possible, so we do not hold auditions nor charge subs for being members of the choir. We do perform music which is reliant on strong soloists, so if you have the voice and want to be heard, make yourself known.
Music and lyrics To date the music has ranged from traditional gospel, through hip hop, R&B, to various styles of worship music. We have also experimented with some more secular music appropriate to gospel harmonies. We learn the songs by rote (without music or lyrics written down) in order to be inclusive of those who don't read music and so that we learn and memorise songs effectively ... leaving us free to dance!
Performances In the last 12 months we have performed at a number of public events in Canterbury and further afield. This included taking part in the University 'Carols by Candlelight' in the Canterbury Cathedral, community fundraisers, Don't Stop Believing for FIVE TV, and qualified for the University Gospel Choir of the Year Finals in July 2011 performing on a West End stage!! (So we now need to qualify for the 2012 competition!)
Musicians wanted! We currently have a band behind us (piano, bass, drums & guitar) but need more people to keep things moving. Being a university, some people will have study commitments which should come first, but if we have others to back the choir we can fill up the gaps when needed. If you are interested, play any of the above (or anything else), please let me know.
